Why Marbella is attractive

It may sound paradoxical in times of crisis to speak about millions and millions of Euros or Pounds but wealth attracts wealth. The estimated 45,000 millionaires with a total worth of 8,000 million Euros, have at the moment the Costa del Sol for their first residence or vacation home. They are not here just for pleasure with the wonderful climate, but also you have the strategic geographical location, the business opportunities in the field of tourism and real estate, the financial centre of Gibraltar or the business contacts that you can meet almost every day at any conceivable place on the coast, such as golf clubs, tennis clubs, schools, fashion shows, casinos, etc. The residents form an international community, to bring together people from all countries of the world. Alone in the region around Marbella are around 30 000 registered foreigners from 137 countries. School-age children have the opportunity to receive an excellent education in international schools and they generally have at least two or three languages. Excellent sports of all kinds and for all age groups and sport facilities rounds off the picture on the highest level and help for the location of Costa del Sol and those that decide to be part of a multi cultural community. Furthermore, the proximity to the most southern ski resort in Europe, the Sierra Nevada is another plus. Within two hours driving time, you're in an area with over 100 kilometres of ski slopes overlooking the Mediterranean Sea from the Costa Tropical to the Straits of Gibraltar.
Marbella has everything possible initiated to recover the image lost due to the corruption scandal surrounding the former mayor Roca. New regulations, have allowed most already built properties with non-permitted residential permits to be legalised, presenting satisfactory results for the owners and to address the financial crisis at the town hall providing for a better external presentation. One topic that many of the residents from abroad complained about was always the noise. The Town Hall has taken this more seriously. The noise from bars and nightclubs was fought successfully and over the last three years, the disturbances of noise have declined by 55%. Emphasis is placed on the will in public places, no new opening permits for bars, pubs or restaurants have been granted by the Town Hall. The disturbances of noise are not necessarily by loud music, but by the masses of people who are located in front of the bars or restaurants. The focus is still Puerto Banus, a real problem area, because this is the most preferred place for night owls. A Property buyer, looking for rest and relaxation must ask, is this the best place for a dream home. In the next few years this will be a hotly debated topic. If you are someone who loves the nightlife, entertainment, enjoying good food and parties and all this against the backdrop of a marina, then you are exactly right.
Another project, Government backed, is beginning to take form, namely the expansion of the Port La Bajadilla. For years this project had a lack of funding. Now that the new owner of football club FC Malaga, the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Tani with large investments on the Costa del Sol, has announced the expansion of the company and negotiated the rights of use for forty years. This includes around 19000 square meters of new berths and the opportunity for cruise ships with a length of 150 to 160 meters with a maximum of 700 passengers to dock in Marbella. This expansion has the support of all local economic sectors and makes for the positive development of Marbella. It is also one of the most important infrastructure projects throughout the region with positive impact on the labour market.
There is also the area of the beach promenade. In the port area there is a new area of entertainment with cosy terrace restaurants and cocktail bars creating a new platform with magnificent panoramic views. A new pedestrian bridge connects Marbella to Puerto Banus and soon the beach promenade to San Pedro de Alcantara. This means nearly 12 miles without interruption along the beach.
The new Government must and will of course respect the opinions of foreigners as is reported there are now more than 16 000 EU citizens registered to vote and the next local elections are to be held in May.
